Kosi Agreement between India and Nepal 1954

The Koshi dam on the Saptakoshi river in Sunsari district collapsed on Monday afternoon after breaching embankments. Nearly 30,000 people are reported to have fled their homes after a dam collapsed in south-eastern Nepal leading to flooding in the area. The flood in the Sunsari district caused by the Koshi River is not just the problem of the denizens of Sunsari alone, it is indeed a national crisis.

Maoists back off Gurkha recruitment ban threat

gurkha regiment, ukThe hard-line Maoist government in Nepal has agreed the British Army can continue recruiting Gurkhas – for now. The famous fighting men are based in Folkestone – but finding more recruits could end in just seven years when the Maoists will reportedly review the situation.  It was feared the new Nepalese government would forbid young men from signing up with the British military, and there were reports Nepal’s borders would be totally shut off from the world following the abolition of the monarchy.

Pashimina  is kind of textile which is made by cashmere wool.The name comes from Pashmineh, made from Persian pashm (= "wool"). This wool comes from changthangi or pashmina goat—a special breed of goat indigenous to high altitudes of the Himalayas. The wool has been used for thousands of years to make high-quality shawls that also bear the same name.

The Origin of the Kukri

Kukri is the now accepted spelling; “Khukuri” is the strict translation of the Nepali word.  Either way the thing itself is the renowned national weapon of Nepal and the Gurkhas.  A Nepali boy is likely to have his own kukri at the age of five or so and necessarily becomes skilful in its use long before his manhood.
